The FA and Sky Sports have announced a three-season deal for broadcast coverage of the FA Community Shield.

The traditional curtain raiser to the season, which is sponsored by McDonald’s, will be shown on Sky Sports for the next three years – starting with Chelsea v Manchester United on Sunday August 9 at Wembley Stadium. The rights were previously held by Setanta Sports and had to be re-auctioned following the Irish Broadcasters recent demise

As part of the deal, Sky Sports will also screen the Women’s FA Cup Final for the next three seasons. This season’s fixture is provisionally scheduled for May 3, with the venue and kick-off time still to be confirmed.

Sky Sports’ managing director Barney Francis said: “This is great news for Sky Sports.

“The FA Community Shield is the traditional curtain raiser to the new football season and this year’s contest is sure to be a mouth-watering encounter.

“We’re also delighted to add the Women’s FA Cup Final to our month of finals next May.”
