The Crawley’s are back for yet more period drama
Fans of the drama series located at the more commonly know Highclere Castle in Hampshire will be rejoicing in the news that the nations favourite period drama Downton Abbey has made a return for a fifth outing.
Much the same as seasons gone by, the show gives viewers a window into life of the rich aristocratic families of post WW1, early twentieth century Britain. The overriding theme of this series is about dissent against technological advances and women’s sexual freedom – something that was heavily frowned upon in those days.
Even though many of the stories and subplots are starting to feel a little rehashed, the show still commands huge audiences and is captivating viewing. To keep the viewers interested and to add some glitz and Hollywood glam, Richard E Grant has been added to the cast, playing art historian Simon Bricker. The rather tanned Grant has an eye for Cora but Lord Grantham seems too busy concerning himself with losing his beloved dog to the caddish visitor, whose rather awkward and inappropriate name Isis – not an ideal pets name considering current circumstances abroad!
With just a couple of shows into the series, the plot is still in it’s early stages with accidental fires and conflicts ablaze in the house. More surprises and revelations are sure to be around the corner so if you want to see it before it is shown anywhere else, best get your UK TV system ordered and shipped to your door in time for next weeks episode on Sunday evening.
Strictly take centre stage in the ratings war!
The first weekend of dance routines took place this past Friday and Saturday night on BBC One as a whole new group of contestants hit the floor to impress the onlooking judges of Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood for season 12 of Strictly Come Dancing – now hosted by all-female duo Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman.
More importantly, it seemed the public court of opinion was in favour of the new season as audiences reached highs of 8.2 million whilst ITV’s rival show could only peak at around 7.3 million. There were some pretty ghastly lows on the floor as the opening weekend routines had the usual mixture of clear front runners and sorry tail enders; all hoping not to be the first to leave.
DJ Scott Mills was frankly awful, Gregg Wallace was all over the place and Tim Wonnacott is looking like one of the hot favourites to go first, according to the bookies. What is does make though is great viewing and good old fashioned family entertainment that is a great way to spend a Saturday night.
