Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg sets the best practice pace from Red Bull’s Mark Webber
The practice sessions have now ended and again, Niko Rosberg is showing that his recent pace is not just a flash in the pan. Over the course of the past few races, his driving has arguably been superior to team mate Lewis Hamilton with his race pace and performances being very impressive.
With Sebastian Vettel already looking virtually unbeatable, only a few can seemingly catch him; if at all. Rosberg is too far adrift on points unfortunately and so Alonso, Raikkonen, Hamilton and arguably Webber are the only drivers who can reel him in; if they can get on a run of good results.
With 12 races still to go, there’s a lot of laps left to complete this season but with Vettel’s consistency and skill behind the wheel of his Red Bull F1 car, the chasing pack know that it will take something special, with a large dose of good luck to catch the already three time world champion.
British hopefuls will be disappointed with 2009 world champion Jensen Button this season. Since the heady days of his impressive and dominant season with Braun F1, his teams have never quite given him the car he desired. McLaren are no doubt, a team in decline. Hamilton jumped ship over to Mercedes this season and thus far, that appears to have been a wise move. If Hamilton’s performances can match those of his earlier years, the home fans know that he can put in a performance of dazzling quality.
So it all hinges on tomorrow’s qualifying sessions. With the weather in the UK becoming ever more unpredictable, rain could spoil what could potentially be a pacey race weekend. So if you don’t want to risk the rainy British weather by making the trip up the Silverstone, the best place to be is at home in front of the TV.
The race is being covered live on both the BBC and Sky Sports F1 channels. So traditionalists can watch the race on terrestrial whilst techno junkies can sit back and watch the racing with interactive features using their Sky remote.
