Lord Sugar returns for another season of calamity by 20 self-proclaimed business moguls

It’s incredible to think that after ten years of sheer idiocy and deluded self-promotion, that we never grow tired of the acts of sheer desperation of the average Apprentice candidate. But here we are with another season and as always, it’s unmissable viewing.

This year marks a decade of the show and with it, a slightly less predictable format where Lord Sugar has taken a hard line, telling every one of the would-be boot lickers that no-one is safe and the usual boardroom rounding on the weakest victim to save one’s own skin won’t be tolerated any longer. Now the finger can point at any number of them at any given time to say those infamous words “you’re fired” if he sees fit; regardless of the present situation or timing of the decision. It’s a change in format that has frankly been long over due.

The series started off with the surprise that there will now be 20 candidates instead of the usual 15 meaning that over the 12 week process, the numbers have to whittle down faster. So hence the fact that already, we’ve seen the finger point more than just twice in the two shows that have already aired this past week; we’re surely in for a few surprises down the track.

What won’t be a surprise is that there is the usual group of ahem… carefully selected business brains, youth, looks, stupidity, controversy and abrasiveness that reminds us all that this show has nothing to do with business. It’s just pure entertainment at the expense of a few clearly deluded and overly-inflated egos.

Catch all the gaffs, mishaps and sackings on BBC One, plus the following up review show with Dara O Briain “The Apprentice: You’re Fired” on BBC Two this season.
