The new Premier League season is nearly upon us!
With an incredibly busy summer schedule of sport, it’s easy to forget that the new football season is just a matter of weeks away. With the disappointment of the World Cup now a distant memory, this summer’s cricketing action a complete disastrous collapse and our tennis hopes somewhat left feeling flat, we can now turn our attentions to other matters.
It all kicks off again on Saturday, August 16th with some cracking live action coming up on Sky, now boasting over 116 live matches at the time of writing. And that doesn’t include their Champions League coverage either!
With many new faces gracing the league this year, none other than departing Dutch national coach Louis Van Gaal now taking the hot seat at Old Trafford; all eyes will be on Manchester United to see if they can recapture their old form after a dismal season last year and mount a serious title challenge.
The first live Sky match takes place on Saturday night as Crystal Palace visits the Emirates Stadium to play Arsenal from 5.30pm. The next day sees a bumper double bill Super Sunday with matches between Liverpool vs Southampton and Newcastle United vs Manchester City whilst newly promoted Burnley host Chelsea in a baptism of fire on the Monday Night Football.

After the controversy of engine changes and new rules implemented (yet again), it’s great to see that this seasons F1 has sprung a few surprises and given us some great racing entertainment.
With Redbull clearly suffering from slower pace under the restrictions of the new 1.6 litre engines, triple world champion Sebastien Vettel is nowhere to be seen in the running with the Mercedes AMG team instead, way out in front, looking great for pace and reliability.
This has led to the inevitable two-horsed race between teammates Hamilton and Rosberg; both past rivals from their karting days who look to go toe-to-toe for the rest of the season to see who will lift this year’s Formula One crown.
The championship lead has ebbed and flowed but to date, the young German appears to have the slight edge going into the final 9 races of the season. Hamilton, the most experienced of the two and a past World Champion, knows he needs to keep his cool and use all of his experience to outwit and outlast the would-be champion if he is to lift his second world title.
With the final race offering double points, could it go down to the wire with the pair fighting it out in a last race showdown? That would be unmissable viewing.
Next up is the Hungarian Grand Prix this coming weekend, with the Hungaroring being a past favourite of Hamilton’s, having chalked up four wins in seven attempts, including the last two. Practice starts from Thursday 25th July on Sky Sports F1, with qualifying on Saturday and the race live on Sunday.
