10 of next season’s 19 races will air exclusively live on Sky
F1 fans have good reason to get excited after Sky’s award-winning Formula One channel has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2014 season; claiming ten races will be exclusively transmitted live to the UK via their subscription based service.
Sky Sports F1 recently won the FIA’s ‘Best TV Broadcaster Award for Outstanding Coverage’ for a second year in succession and will air every race weekend, sharing just nine with their main rival the BBC. The exclusive races pencilled to air live on Sky will be Australia, Bahrain, China, Monaco, Germany, Hungary, Singapore, USA, Brazil and Austria. However, the new Russian Grand Prix will appear live on both Sky and the BBC.
The BBC has gained the rights to air the British, Belgian, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Malaysian, Canadian, Russian and Abu Dhabi grand prix live over the course of next year.
For the most part, Sky have got the best package on offer as executive producer Martin Turner explains:

A special get well message for an F1 legend
At the time of going to press, the worrying news has been announced that F1 legend and all-time great Michael Schumacher is fighting for his life at the University Hospital in Grenoble, France after a skiing accident resulting in a head injury.
Schumacher underwent surgery on arrival at the Hospital and remains in a coma. The medical team treating him said that they are working “hour by hour” and added “all we can do is wait…”
Neurosurgeon Stephan Chabardes said that a post-operative scan had shown “diffuse haemorrhagic lesions” on both sides of Schumacher’s brain. The doctors refused to comment on his prognosis.
It goes without saying that the entire team here at 123UKTV is praying for a quick recovery and wish Michael all the best in his desperate fight.
English cricket just took a beating!
What a difference a few months makes! With just one match remaining in what has developed into a humiliating Ashes test series, England have one last chance to take some pride away from what has been a very flat and poor display Down Under.
In Melbourne, Australia made it four wins out of four and moved closer to an Ashes whitewash with a dominant eight-wicket victory over England with a day to spare.
England had begun with hope of recapturing the spirit of ’98, when they bowled out Australia for just 162 on this very same ground to win by 12 runs. Not this time. Instead they created little and blew what chances they had as Australia cruised to the biggest fourth-innings target at this ground in 51 years. It was yet again another deflating day on the tour.
With the final Test in Sydney starting in four days’ time, England need to buck their ideas up fast and show the world why they have been so consistent up until recently. You can catch all the live coverage on Sky Sports 2 HD from Thursday 2nd January. Let’s hope England can start 2014 with a win!
